CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Ticket sales are lagging for Charlottesville's 250th birthday bash featuring Kool & the Gang.
The Daily Progress ( http://bit.ly/TyKdDF) reports that the $120,000 party this weekend has sold 1,400 of the 2,000 tickets officials had hoped to sell. Half that sum is for the band, according to its contract.
The Celebrate 250 event is set for Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena.
Ticket sales and business sponsorships are expected to cover the cost of the event. Taxpayer dollars will be used to bridge the difference.
The coordinator of the event says the city expects to break even. Sponsors are also hoping for a surge of ticket sales leading to the bash.
