WASHINGTON The allegations at a popular summer camp were shocking: physical fighting or "Fight Club"-type activity among campers at the hands of their counselors.

At the time, Camp Brown attendees were relocated, youth workers were suspended and Maryland State Police got a call.

Now, almost two months removed from the alleged fighting at the St. Mary's County camp, one counselor has been charged and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington has retained a law firm to investigate further.

Partners from Steptoe & Johnson, LLP, are leading the investigation and will report to a special review committee of the BGCGW Board.

Along with conducting its own investigation, the firm is appealing to those who were at Camp Brown or have knowledge of the alleged fighting. The request is for any details or information that could assist in identifying those involved.

"These are very serious allegations and we are committing ourselves to a full investigation of the Camp Brown incidents," Rynthia Rost, the BGCGW Board Chair, said in a statement.

The clubs are also working with the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing to offer counseling to both the campers and their families.

All the counselors allegedly involved in the fighting were terminated.
