‘Office creeper’ steals wallets at doctors’ offices

WASHINGTON – A thief dubbed the “office creeper” has struck at least seven times since June, stealing purses and wallets from cancer and rehabilitation patients and office workers in Fairfax County.

Police say the thief acts like a maintenance man, checking vents at medical offices in McLean and Falls Church.

In the most recent case on Sept. 20, the thief stole the victim’s wallet from a cubby while the victim was undergoing physical therapy at a doctor’s office in the 800 block of Arlington Boulevard.

Police believe the thief uses the credit cards he steals to buy gas.

Four of the crimes occurred in the 8000 block of Arlington Boulevard and three in the 8000 block of Leesburg Pike, police say.

The suspect is in his late 20s. He wore blue work pants, a blue shirt and a neon green traffic vest.
