Va. moves to revoke teacher licenses in sex cases

Thursday - 9/13/2012, 12:14pm  ET

NORFOLK, Va. - The Virginia Department of Education has hired a specialist to ensure teachers convicted of sexual misconduct don't return to the classroom.

State assistant superintendent Patty Pitts tells The Virginia-Pilot ( http://bit.ly/PksSvbV) that Nancy Walsh will follow up on sexual misconduct cases involving teachers.

The goal is to identify teachers whose licenses haven't been revoked for sexual misconduct.

Department of Education spokesman Charles Pyle says the Virginia Board of Education has revoked or canceled the licenses of 40 teachers involved in sexual misconduct with students or minors since January 2010.
