RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia is receiving $8.6 million from a nationwide settlement with British drug maker GlaxoSmithKline.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said Tuesday that the state's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit would turn over the money to the General Fund later this month.

The lawsuit by federal and state governments alleged that GlaxoSmithKline had overcharged the Medicaid program for some drugs.

The company agreed to pay a total $3 billion for criminal and civil violations involving 10 drugs, including promoting antidepressants Paxil and Wellbutrin for unapproved uses.

The Justice Department announced the settlement in July.
