PETERSBURG, Va. - Fort Lee has scheduled separate ceremonies to mark the retirement of two companies.
The inactivation ceremonies scheduled Friday and Wednesday involve the 109th Quartermaster Company specializing in pipeline and terminal operations and the 16th Quartermaster Company, which specializes in shower, laundry and clothing repair.
Both companies are organized under the Army's 49th Quartermaster Group.
A spokesman for the Petersburg base says the inactivations are part of a restructuring to provide a more agile and adaptable fighting force.
Many members of the two companies have received assignment orders to their new units.
