Police: Man climbed ladder into home, assaulted girl

WASHINGTON – A 24-year-old Hyattsville man is facing charges after Prince George’s County police say he broke into a home Sunday morning and assaulted a young girl.

According to police, Duron Lee West used a ladder to climb into the second-floor bathroom of a house on the 8100 block of Allendale Drive in Hyattsville. An 11-year-old girl woke up to find a man standing over her bed touching her, police say.

The girl screamed and fought him off, police say. Her screams woke her mother, who chased West from the house.

Officers who searched the room found a wallet under the window. Police say that led them to West’s house on the same block. They say West was hiding in a closet when they found him. West’s mother says her son is innocent and the victim is lying, reports ABC 7 News.

West is charged with first-degree burglary, third- and fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault. He is being held on $75,000 bond.
