UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – Former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas and multi- platinum selling singer Chris Brown teamed up for the Goodman League Roundball Classic Sunday at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School.

Brown stepped onto the court first to the ear-busting screams of teenagers coming from every corner of the gym.

Brown seemed unfazed by the attention as he warmed up. A labyrinth of tattoos were visible down each of Brown’s arms in his dark blue Goodman League uniform. His short, blonde hair was in tight curls.

Some of the spotlight shifted once Arenas was introduced.

LaShawn Knight says she came specifically to see Arenas.

“I know him from his Wizards days,” she says, “and he’s a good person.”

Along with Arenas, current NBA players Shelvin Mack from the Washington Wizards, Josh Selby from the Memphis Grizzlies, and free agent Sam Young took part in the game.

For Young, a Prince George’s County native who attended Friendly High School, it’s a chance to play in front of many familiar faces.

“When you come home, and you get a chance to play in front of your family members, your aunts and uncles, it’s always cool,” Young says.

During halftime, D.C. famed rapper Wale performed a medley of his hits.

Wizards guard John Wall, and Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant were billed, but were no-shows to the exhibition.

Brown and Arenas’s Goodman Blue squad beat the Goodman White team, decisively, 155-131.
