RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia State University will receive a $300,000 federal grant to conduct training, outreach and technical assistance to minority farmers, ranchers and forest landowners.
Seventy grants being given nationwide were announced Wednesday by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
Virginia State and other recipients will use the grants to work with prospective farmers as they acquire, build and operate farms and ranches.
Vilsack says the $19 million in grants will help build stronger rural communities.
