Police: Man may have more victims
WTOP's Neal Augenstein reports
HYATTSVILLE, Md. - A 25-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl in Prince George's County, and police believe it's not the first time he's committed such crimes.
Police say Charles Amofa, of the 600 block of Sheridan Street in Chillum, was arrested Monday afternoon after an officer found him and the victim near a Hyattsville-area playground where the alleged sexual assault took place.
Police say Amofa approached the girl at a Value Village Thrift Store in the 2200 block of University Boulevard and lured her outside. He then allegedly took her to the West Park Playground, located in the 2500 block of Chapman Road, and sexually assaulted her.
Police say their investigation revealed that Amofa was involved in a similar attack last month. In that case, an 8-year-old girl was lured from the same store but fought off her attacker and ran away.
Online court records do not list an attorney for Amofa.
Anyone with information about the case or who may have come in contact with Amofa is asked to call the Prince George's County Police Department's Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit at 301-772-4930.
