ARLINGTON, Va. – World of Beer. It’s not just the name of a new hot spot that opened Monday in Arlington. It’s an experience, according to owner Evan Matts.

“We carry 500 different bottles of beer. We house about 10,000 bottles inside our cooler. We have 50 taps,” says Matts.

Many of them are on display encased behind the bar, in the same vein as the beer section in a convenience store, but Matts’ brews are imported from 40 different countries.

“You won’t find Michelob, Miller, Budweiser, anything like that. It’s all about the craft beer.”

The World of Beer chain has 30 franchises across the country from Florida to Arizona.

Matts’ store, located at 901 North Glebe Rd. in Arlington, is the first to open in Virginia.

“I think this is probably the best area, in my opinion, anywhere in the country,” Matts says. “Just great people.”

The venue is decked out with more than 20 flat-screen televisions inside, as well as two that face the outside patio.

The small stage to the right of the main entrance will be used for live music four days a week.

Matts hopes corporate types and of-age students alike come in for a beer and to enjoy the WiFi hookup.

Whether patrons are neophyte beer enthusiasts or avid connoisseurs of suds, Matts sees his place as the new stomping ground for beer lovers.

“Everyone from 21 to 40 years of age, 50 years of age, 60 years, on up,” Matts says.
