ROCKVILLE, Md. - The votes are in, and the No. 1 brunch spot in the WTOP Top 10 is Bagel City in Rockville.

"The food, the company, the service, and ownership: they're fantastic, they're warm, they're friendly," customer Shelly Narrow says.

She comes most Sundays with her family and friends. Sitting a few tables down, another regular -- Joey Pahira.

"It's great. We live close by," says Pahira. "It's a really quick, friendly place, and the food is delicious."

Across the table, Paige says she likes it because it's "family oriented and it also kind of feels like a '60s diner at the same time."

It's a family-run business in a shopping center on Rockville Pike, between Twinbrook Parkway and Montrose Parkway. There's a long list of bagel spreads and other food options listed over the counter, and some employees who have been there since the place got started.

"I think that Bagel City is one of the best brunch places in the DMV because we've been around for 30 years, and we make our bagels here on premises, and we're a very family oriented atmosphere," Operations Manager Stephanie Kavadoy says.

"We make all of our spreads here homemade and whitefish salad, so we have a New-York-style flared brunch here," she says.

There had been concerns earlier in the year that this past Sunday could be the restaurant's last day in business at the location, after a Wal-Mart was proposed for the site last fall. Now, she says it appears the strip mall is safe.

"I feel comfortable for the next 10 years Bagel City will stay here," Kavadoy says.

Here's how the rest of the brunch places stacked up in WTOP's Top 10:

  1. Bagel City
  2. Kosher Pastry Oven
  3. Tastee Diner
  4. Clyde's
  5. FireFlies
  6. Founding Farmers
  7. Tabard Inn
  8. Eggspectation
  9. Four Seasons
  10. K2 Restaurant and Lounge

Voting for WTOP's Top 10 was open to WTOP listeners, and was conducted through WTOP.com and the WTOP Facebook page.
