Augusta Co. repeals gun fingerprint requirement

Thursday - 7/26/2012, 12:40pm  ET

VERONA, Va. - Augusta County residents applying for a concealed weapon permit will no longer have to be fingerprinted.

WVIR-TV ( http://bit.ly/ObFOXR) reports that the Board of Supervisors repealed the fingerprinting requirement Wednesday.

The move is in response to the 2012 General Assembly's elimination of the option for localities to require fingerprints for concealed weapons permits.

William Carter of Stuarts Draft said during a public hearing before the vote that a criminal wouldn't be fingerprinted for a concealed weapon permit because he wouldn't bother to get one.
