Pr. George’s officials probe man’s apparent drowning

UPDATE (10:52 a.m.) – The person pulled from a Laurel pond who was later pronounced dead has been identified as Kalif Omar Richardson, 21.

WTOP originally reported the victim was a teenage boy.

Area residents called 911 before 9 p.m. Tuesday night after Richardson reportedly went for a swim and did not return home.

Rescue workers pulled him from the pond an hour and a half later, near the Willow Lakes Apartments on Old Stagecoach Road.

He was pronounced dead at Laurel Regional Hospital.

WASHINGTON (7:25 a.m.) – A teenage boy who was pulled from the bottom of a pond Tuesday night in Laurel has died.

The Prince George’s County Fire Department pulled the boy from a pond near Willow Lakes Apartments on Old Stagecoach Road at about 10:20 p.m.

Residents called 911 shortly before 9 p.m. to report that the boy had gone for a swim but never returned. He was found at the bottom of the pond 90 minutes later.

Paramedics attempted CPR and the teen was then taken to Laurel Regional Hospital in very critical condition, and was later pronounced dead.

Mark Brady of the Prince George’s County Fire Department tweeted, “Despite the best efforts of the water rescue team, medics & ER staff the teenaged male pulled from a Laurel pond was pronounced deceased.”

Brady says the water depth of the pond ranged from 2 to 4 feet. County fire officials say they are investigating the apparent drowning.
