WASHINGTON – Don’t let the rain get you down this weekend. Get a jump start on Christmas, rock out to live music and meet fire-breathing dragons.

Music fans should whip out their galoshes and head to Dover, Del. for the FireFly Music Festival Friday through Sunday. Headliners include The Killers, The Black Keys, Jack White and Death Cab for Cutie. The inaugural fest promises to be a less overwhelming alternative to heavyweights like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, but still takes place on the 87-acre Woodlands ground. Passes start at $68 and can be purchased online or by calling 312-253-6545.

If dragons are more your speed, check out “How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular” at the Verizon Center, which features 23 mythical creatures with 40-foot wingspans zipping through the air. Fans of the DreamWorks movie will recognize Toothless – “the rarest and most intelligent” of the species – along with other dragon classes like Nightmare, Gronkle and Nadder. Tickets are $24.50 to $74.70 and can be purchased by clicking here.

Celebrate Christmas in July at The Christmas Attic in Alexandria Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Santa Claus will hang up his red suit and sport a pair of sunglasses and swim shorts for this summer treat. Retailers will host trunk shows, food and wine tastings, cookie decorating and ornament making. Don’t forget to snap a photo with St. Nick and get a jump start on those Christmas wishes. Call 703-548-2829 for more information.

Venus Williams will return to D.C. Sunday when the Washington Kastles take on the Kansas City Explorers. Williams is replacing her sister Serena, who withdrew from the match in advance of the 2012 Olympic Games in London next week. There is also a match Friday against the Orange County Breakers. Check the website for a full schedule and to buy tickets.
