Wind turbine rules stalled in Garrett County, Md.

Wednesday - 6/27/2012, 12:22pm  ET

OAKLAND, Md. - A move to regulate wind farms has stalled in far western Maryland.

The Cumberland Times News ( http://bit.ly/MB0wfj) reports that the Garrett County Commissioners couldn't agree Tuesday on how to proceed with a proposed formula for putting distance between new wind turbines and homes.

The restrictions were part of a proposed countywide land-use ordinance that many citizens opposed. Garrett County lacks countywide land-use zoning.

The county's legislative delegation has tried repeatedly to get wind farms regulated more closely at the state level.

Garrett County is home to two wind farms, with more in development.
