Va.'s Fort Lee gets new commander

PETERSBURG, Va. - Virginia's Fort Lee has a new commanding general.

Maj. Gen. Larry D. Wyche took command of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command and the Sustainment Center of Excellence at Fort Lee at a ceremony on Tuesday.

The Emporia native takes over the top spot at the Petersburg base from Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge, who has held the position since September 2010. Hodge retired at a ceremony earlier Tuesday where he ended a 34-year career in the Army.

The Progress-Index reports ( that Wyche most recently served as commanding general of the Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command and Joint Munitions Command in Illinois. There, he was in charge of more than 15,000 employees and soldiers with depots, plants and arsenals in 17 locations.
