LANHAM, Md. - Officials say a Metro Transit Police detective shot and killed a man in exchange of gunfire while investigating an attempted abduction in Prince George's County.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says the detective went to the 7100 block of Lory Lane in Lanham about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate the attempted abduction of a woman in Northeast Washington on Sunday evening.
Officials say the man fired several times at the detective and the detective returned fire, fatally injuring the man. Authorities did not identify the man.
The detective, who also has not been identified, has been placed on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated by Prince George's County police and transit officials. He was not injured.
