ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Former Anne Arundel County Council member Daryl D. Jones, who lost his seat after being convicted of failing to file a tax return, is due to be released from a South Carolina federal prison.
Jones, a Democrat, was removed from office after the council said once he reported to prison, he would no longer live in his district. The Baltimore Sun ( http://bsun.md/NVcju7) reports that Jones, set to be freed on Thursday after serving a five-month term, has appealed a court ruling in the council's favor.
Peter Smith was named to fill Jones' seat.
