SWAT ends standoff with suspected shooter

WASHINGTON – One man is dead and police have ended an ensuing standoff with the alleged killer, Metropolitan Police say.

Police say the suspect shot another man just before 2 a.m. It occurred in the 1700 block of 17th Street, SE, near R Street.

The suspect ran into a building. SWAT teams responded to the scene.

The suspect is described as a black man with dreadlocks. He was wearing a blue and white shirt and jeans.

The victim was shot in the stomach and a bullet grazed his head, police say. He later died at the hospital. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Police have not identified the victim. They say a person is in custody, but have not confirmed it is the suspect.
