VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach police say a swimmer who was pulled from the ocean has drowned.
Police spokeswoman Tonya Borman says lifeguards pulled the 40-year-old man from the Oceanfront on Saturday afternoon.
EMS Division Chief Bruce Nedelka says the man was in cardiac arrest when he was taken from the water and he was pronounced dead later at a hospital.
Red flags had warned swimmers of dangerous surf on Saturday.
The Virginian-Pilot reports the man's name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
