Pr. George’s County hosts second ‘gift cards for guns’ event

WASHINGTON – Prince George’s county is offering residents another chance to turn in any gun and receive up to $100 in gift cards for each gun.

The county is again teaming up with the NAACP in the Gift Cards for Guns program in an attempt to reduce gun-related crimes. The event will be held Saturday, September 8, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oxon Hill United Methodist Church on 6400 Livingston Road.

The first event was held in early June. The program provides an incentive for those who are willing to anonymously turn in their weapons for Visa gift cards.

All guns must be locked and kept in a trunk when being transported to the trade in event, say Prince George’s County police. They will accept the weapons in any condition.

All weapons will be destroyed.
