ACCOMAC, Va. - Accomack County prosecutors have dropped their case against a Virginia Beach police officer accused of stabbing and shooting at two firefighters who tried to help him after a car accident.
According to media reports, a judge signed an order to release 24-year-old Bradley Colas from custody Monday. The rookie patrolman had been scheduled for trial on attempted murder and other charges Tuesday.
Colas claimed the March 4 incident was the result of hallucinations caused by the antibiotic Biaxin. According to previous testimony, Colas thought he had to go to Philadelphia to meet Jesus, and he thought the firefighters were trying to hurt him. He apologized to the firefighters at a bond hearing in March.
Colas remains employed by the Virginia Beach police.
