ANNANDALE, Va. (AP) - Fairfax County police are investigating the theft of an antique coin and bank note collection worth up to $500,000.
Police said Tuesday that the collection was stolen about 7:20 p.m. on April 14.
Authorities say a couple had returned to their home in the 3800 block of Stuart Circle in the Annandale area after attending a coin show in Charlottesville. Police say the couple parked their vehicle in the driveway and went inside the home for about 10 minutes. When they returned, police say they discovered the collection was missing.
Authorities say the items were inside brown leather suitcases, document holders and a backpack, all of which were hidden under a blanket in the rear hatch area of the vehicle. Police say they believe the victims were targeted.
