MIDDLEBURG, Va. - Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will be in Middleburg to announce details of a new public-private partnership that will preserve a key portion of the Middleburg Battlefield from the Civil War.
McDonnell will be joined Wednesday with other state officials and the president of the Civil War Trust, a preservation group dedicated to protecting battle sites.
The land, located in both Loudoun and Fauquier counties, was the site of a cavalry battle in June of 1863.
The battle, part of the Gettysburg campaign, produced nearly 400 casualties in three days of skirmishes and fighting. Most of the losses were on the Union side.
