RICHMOND, Va. - About two dozen speakers took turns slamming Dominion Virginia Power's long-range energy plans at a hearing in Richmond before state regulators.

Activists, grandparents, physicians and solar power manufacturers were among the speakers Tuesday at the hearing before the State Corporation Commission.

Each weighed in on the utility's "integrated resource plan," a blueprint of how Dominion plans meet Virginia's ever-growing energy demands. They said it relies too heavily on fossil fuels and does not include enough renewables such as solar and wind.

For its part, Dominion said in a statement it has a broad array of renewable energy sources in operation, under construction or planned with the capacity to power more than 400,000 homes.

The SCC hearing ended with a protest along Main Street attended by about 50 people.
