WASHINGTON – The Capitals’ red-hot goalie Braden Holtby has been great in the playoffs, but fans are having a hard time finding a Holtby jersey.

It’s because he is so new to the team.

Sporting goods stores, including Modell’s, Dicks and Champs, do not have a single Braden Holtby jersey in stock. Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin jerseys are far easier to find.

Holtby was just called up from the minors last month when both Caps’ goalies Michal Neuvirth and Thomas Vokoun suffered injuries.

In his time minding the net, 22-year-old Holtby has excelled against the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins.

“A great save by Holtby” and “What a shot and a glove save made by Braden Holtby” have been familiar cries from John Walton, radio voice on WFED for the Washington Caps.

At NHL.com, buyers can find 89 items for sale bearing Alexander Ovechkin’s name, even Ovechkin beer bottles. There are 29 Niklas Backstrom pieces of merchandise, including a Nic Backstrom magnet set. But when you search Holtby — the result says, “We’re having trouble locating a match.”

However, if fans are willing to do some online shopping, there is Holtby gear on eBay.

Holtby T-shirts start at $22 and a home jersey is priced at $175.

Amazon has a white caps Holtby jersey bearing number 70 for $76.

The Caps take on the Bruins in Game 7 Wednesday.
