Va. gives 30-day tax break to jet crash victims

RICHMOND, Va. - The state is giving those Virginia Beach residents who were displaced when a Navy fighter jet crashed into their apartment complex a month's break on their Virginia taxes.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Friday that those who are unable to meet their filing obligations because their financial records are located in their damaged apartment will have an extra 30 days to pay and file their taxes.

The F/A-18D Hornet crashed April 6 just after taking off from Naval Air Station Oceana. No one was killed, but dozens of apartments were damaged or destroyed by the impact or fire from the crash.

McDonnell says he hopes the filing deadline will alleviate some of the residents' concerns.

The extension does not affect federal tax filings.
