Alexandria home destroyed in fire

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Fire officials say they are investigating a two-alarm house fire in Alexandria in which a woman suffered smoke inhalation.

Officials say the Alexandria Fire Department responded to the fire at an old two-story home at 1147 Palmer Place, just east of I-395 — between Duke Street and Seminary Road — about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

More than 50 firefighters were on the scene from Alexandria City, Alexandria, Arlington and the Fairfax County Fire Departments.

The house was destroyed.

Two occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and escaped from the home. Officials say a 19-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation at a hospital.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
