WASHINGTON – Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial for a sunrise Easter service.

The service is sponsored by the National Church of Vienna, Va., but Christians from many denominations and from all across the country attend because of the setting.

The service is directly in front of the Lincoln Memorial giving participants, many of whom sit on the memorial’s steps, a spectacular view as the sun rises over the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol Building.

The service has become a Washington area tradition. The church has been putting on the service on the National Mall since 1979.
