FISHERSVILLE, Va. (AP) - The identity of the donor who gave Mary Baldwin College the largest gift in its history has been revealed.
Mary Baldwin trustee Bertie Murphy Deming Smith gave the school $15 million to start a graduate health sciences program.
Mary Baldwin officials announced the gift last October. But the donor wasn't revealed until Thursday.
Media outlets report that Smith and members of her family joined school and local officials at the site of the new Murphy-Deming College of Health Sciences.
Smith is a 1946 graduate of the college and a long-time donor.
The health sciences facility will be built on 30 acres of land adjacent to Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center.
