UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - A Prince George's County police officer is accused of stealing from the department's property warehouse.
Officials say Martin Abundez, who's been with the department for six years, faces multiple counts of theft and misconduct in office. Assistant Police Chief Kevin Davis says Abundez tried to steal a camera from the warehouse in January by concealing it in a backpack.
Davis says the camera was not being used as evidence in any ongoing case. He calls the alleged theft an isolated incident.
Prosecutors formally charged Abundez in March after investigating. Abundez was served with the charging document Monday.
Abundez declined to comment Tuesday and said he wanted to speak with his union representatives.
Abundez has been suspended and placed on administrative leave.
