Record set in Cherry Blossom 10-miler

WASHINGTON - Allan Kiprono of Kenya set a course record Sunday morning in the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, race officials say.

And, women's defending champ Jelliah Tinega of Kenya won the race for the second year in a row.

Kiprono, who came in second last year, ran the 10 miles in 45:15.

Tinega finished in 54:02.

Thousands participated in the 40th annual event, as well as the Cherry Blossom 5K Run-Walk and the 1/2 Mile Kids' Run.

Here's a look at the top runners and their times:

Men's Winners:

1st place:
Allan Kiprono of Kenya
Course record time of 45:15.
He came in second last year.

2nd place:
Lani Kiplagat of Kenya
Race time: 46:28
He came in fourth place last year

3rd place:
John Korir of Kenya
Race time: 47:33
He's a three-time past winner of the race. The last time he won was 2005.

4th place:
Ian Burrell of U.S.
Race time: 47:34

5th place:
Jesse Cherry of U.S.
Race time:47:40

Women's winners:

1st place:
Jelliah Tinega of Kenya
Race time: 54:02
She's the defending champ from last year.

2nd place:
Malika Mejdoub of Morroco
Race time: 54:24

3rd place:
Yihunlish Delelecha of Ethiopia, a D.C. resident
Race time: 54:33

4th place:
Agnieszka Ciolek of Poland
Race time: 54:36

5th place:
Claire Hallissey of Great Britain, an Arlington resident
Race time: 54:37

Money raised from the event will benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a consortium of 170 premier children's hospitals across the nation.
