HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - A dozen people have made Fort Monroe National Monument the last stop in their tour of all 397 facilities in the National Park System.
The members of the National Park Travelers Club completed the feat Friday. The National Park Service says those 12 are among only 20 people known to have visited all of the national parks.
The club's president emeritus, Nancy Bandley of Orange County, Calif., was among those visiting Fort Monroe. She said the quest to visit every state park dates to 1986 and has taken her and others to every state in the union, as well as some American territories. The group had more traveling to do after Fort Monroe and two other facilities were added to the system last year.
