RICHMOND, Va. - A Richmond resident unearthed an unexpected item while digging in a flower bed.
Police Capt. Paul Kinry tells The Richmond Times-Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/HrCXGP) that the resident found a Civil War-era cannonball.
Kinry says the bomb squad was called to the home because the cannonball still had a fuse, which could make it unstable.
The bomb squad used a robot to secure the cannonball and took it to another location, where it was detonated.
Kinry says the cannonball discovered Thursday night weighed 5 to 10 pounds.
