6 Va. housing agencies get grants to help vets

RICHMOND, Va. - Six housing agencies in Virginia will share a total $1.2 million in federal grants to help homeless veterans obtain housing.

Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki announced the funding Tuesday.

The grants will be used to provide permanent housing and case management for homeless veterans.

The largest grant, $558,149, is going to the Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Also receiving grants are the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, $187,566; the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority, $32,701; the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority, $107,679; the Prince William County Office of Housing and Community Development, $128,138; and the Virginia Housing Development Authority, $187,365
