Burgess of Rosemont, Md., to resign

Monday - 3/26/2012, 1:18pm  ET

ROSEMONT, Md. - The burgess of the Frederick County town of Rosemont plans to resign after 11 months in office.

Delmas Freeman will step down Monday. He tells The Frederick News-Post ( http://bit.ly/GPh9kj) that his successor has already been chosen and will be announced at Monday night's town meeting.

Freeman is a Department of Defense pharmacist at Fort Detrick. He received transfer orders March 16, and he and his wife plan to leave Frederick County within a month. He did not detail his new assignment, but he calls it "a career-topper."

Freeman was elected burgess in May 2011. He helped broker a deal under which the Maryland Department of the Environment will pay up to $2 million to update the pipes that bring water to 80 customers in the village.
