VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - One of the Virginia Aquarium's original otters has died.
The aquarium says in a news release that 18-year-old Willoughby was euthanized Tuesday because of several age-related health issues.
Senior curator of mammals Chip Harshaw says Willoughby's gentle disposition made the decision to euthanize him even more difficult.
Willoughby had lived at the aquarium for 16 years. He was one of the aquarium's five original otters. Pungo is the only one that remains, along with 5-year-old Tippy and 2-year-old Homer.
Aquarium officials are looking for another otter.
