RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Richmond International Raceway's president says the racetrack is willing to host the State Fair of Virginia once again.
President Dennis Bickmeier told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that track officials are open to discussions about bringing back the fair. The raceway complex hosted the fair from 1946 until it moved to Meadow Event Park in Caroline County in 2009.
The State Fair of Virginia Inc. announced Wednesday it is heading into Chapter 7 liquidation. The nonprofit organization filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December.
Caroline County Board of Supervisors Chairman Wayne Acors says the county remains hopeful that the fair will resume on the 360-acre site in Caroline County.
