RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Port of Richmond is expected to get a big boost from the world's second-largest shipping line.
Mediterranean Shipping Co. S.A. of Geneva recently added the port to its route map. That will give shippers access to more than 330 global ports that the company serves.
J.J. Keever with the Virginia Port Authority tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the authority expects other ocean carriers to add the Port of Richmond to their route structures.
A regular barge service runs between the James River port and the Port of Virginia in Hampton Roads.
The authority took over the port's management last year. The port has struggled since it lost most of its business in 2009.
