CRISFIELD, Md. (AP) - Construction of a wind turbine next to Crisfield's sewage plant could begin as soon as April following the award of a $3.2 million contract.

The City Council awarded the contract to Bearing Construction Co., which submitted the lowest of three bids.

Jason Loar, an engineer with Salisbury firm Davis, Bowen & Friedel, says he feels the project could be a pilot project for wind power on the Eastern Shore. The turbine would provide power to the sewage treatment plant, saving the city $150,000 to $200,000 a year.

The engineer told The Daily Times of Salisbury ( http://bit.ly/SuvP3G) that construction is expected to take nine months. Loar says if the state's Board of Public Works approves the project at its March meeting, construction could begin after that.
