CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A group of University of Virginia students has ended a hunger strike over employee compensation.
Media outlets report that the students ended the protest Thursday. Organizers say other actions are planned after spring break ends.
Five students fasted throughout the 13-day hunger strike, and a total 26 participated.
The hunger strike was aimed at drawing attention to the students' efforts to get U.Va. officials to improve employee compensation, including raising the minimum wage to $13 an hour.
University spokeswoman Carol Wood says President Teresa A. Sullivan was concerned about the students' wellbeing and is pleased that the hunger strike has ended.
