NORFOLK, Va. - The Navy says the medical ship USNS Comfort is expected to move from Maryland to Virginia.
According to a news release, the ship is expected to move from Baltimore to Naval Station Norfolk around March 2013.
The Comfort provides medical and surgical care for deployed forces, as well as hospital services for disaster relief.
The Daily Press reports ( http://bit.ly/z8QSBI) that the Navy believes the shift will lead to an annual savings of $1.7 million in the first year, and $2.1 million in subsequent years.
The Navy also says the move will improve access to military facilities for the 59 military members assigned to the ship.
