SALISBURY, Md. - A Scottish Rite building in Salisbury has been damaged by fire.
The Daily Times of Salisbury ( http://bit.ly/whcyCH) reports the fire started in the basement Sunday morning and was brought under control in about 20 minutes.
Marion Barkley, a trustee of the Freemasons' group that owns the building, says there are well over 100 people in associated groups that meet at the building regularly.
Darren Scott of the Salisbury Fire Department estimated the damage at about $50,000. He says the building is believed to be more than 100 years old.
Barkley says the Freemasons took over the building from the Holloway Funeral Home about 30 years ago.
He says the owners have found evidence in the past of homeless people breaking into the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
