Fire departments pay respect to fallen paramedic

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Fire departments staged a salute to fallen firefighter Joshua Weissman Sunday morning, as his body was taken to the funeral home.

Fire departments staged their equipment with American flags hanging from them as his body was taken from the Medical Examiner’s office.

“It’s a sign of respect for that individual making the ultimate sacrifice,” says Chief Fire Marshal Robert Rodriguez of the Alexandria Fire Department.

The trip included a stop at the Seminary Road station where he started and ended his career.

Weissman, 33, of Bristow, Va., died Thursday after falling 30 feet into Four Mile Run Creek from Interstate 395 on Wednesday night. Virginia State Police are still investigating the accident.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home at 1500 West Braddock Road in Alexandria, Va. from 5 p.m. to Midnight.

The funeral service will he held at the Beth El Hebrew Congregation at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The internment will follow at the Ivy Hill Cemetery.

The path the procession will take from the service to the internment has not been announced.

Seating is limited at Beth El Hebrew Congregation, and the public is advised to dress appropriately for waiting outdoors in winter weather.
