RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - An attorney who lost a bid to become Henrico County's top prosecutor has died from what police say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Henrico County police tell media outlets that family members found 42-year-old Matthew P. Geary dead on Sunday at a home on Lauderdale Drive.
Geary, a Republican, ran for the office of Henrico County commonwealth's attorney in 2011. He finished third in the November election behind Democratic winner Shannon Taylor and former Henrico Del. Bill Janis. Janis, a Republican, gave up his seat in the General Assembly and ran as an independent.
