UNDATED – Football fans love the Super Bowl. How much? A survey by CouponCabin.com finds 15 percent would miss the birth of child to see the game.
The survey of 2,625 adults surveyed for CouponCabin.com by Harris Interactive should give future brides a heads up, as well as employers. Those surveyed said they’d also be willing to miss these events in order to watch the Super Bowl:
- Something important for work – 21 percent
- Weddings of friends, even close ones, or family members — 20 percent
- Funeral of a loved one – 19 percent
Thirty seven percent view the Super Bowl as the best major sporting event.
The same percentage said they watch for the commercials. Ladies are more likely to do this than men, 44 percent to 31 percent, respectively.
One-third will watch the Patriots-Giants Sunday because they like Super Bowl parties.
When it comes to betting, 31 percent admit making a wager. Men are more likely than women to do so, 41 percent to 21 percent.
So how much have the bettors won or lost?
- Won $100 or more – 44 percent
- Won $201 – $500 – 12 percent
- Won $501 or more – 7 percent
- Lost money betting on the Super Bowl – 92 percent
- Lost $100 or more – 14 percent
Harris conducted this year’s survey from Jan. 9 to Jan. 11. Last year’s survey said 69 percent of Americans would tune in. According to the Nielsen Co., an estimated 111 million people watched the Green Bay Packers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in last year’s game. That topped the 106.5 million who watched the 2010 game between New Orleans and Indianapolis.
