BLUEFIELD, Va. - Kroger is closing a store in West Virginia and a bottling plant in Virginia that employ a total 164 workers.

Media outlets report that Kroger announced the closures of the store in Bluefield, W.Va., and Bluefield Beverage in Bluefield, Va., on Friday. The store employs 28 full-time and 26 part-time workers, and the bottling plant employs 110 workers.

Kroger says the store's part-time workers will be laid off. Full-time workers could move to other stores in Virginia, depending on seniority, under Kroger's contract with Local 400 of the United Food and Commercial Workers.

The store will close March 30 and the bottling plant will close April 27.

Kroger spokesman Carl York says both operations have lost money for several years.
