Friday - 2/17/2012, 8:13pm  ET

POWHATAN, Va. - Virginia State Police say there were no injuries when a small plane made an emergency landing in a field in Powhatan.

Officials say the plane was traveling from Manassas to Fayetteville, N.C., on Friday when the pilot radioed the airport that he was having engine problems.

Forty-two-year-old pilot Mark A. Witte of Manassas was able to land the plane shortly before 4:45 p.m. in a field next to Route 13.

About 20 gallons of fuel spilled from the plane, which will be towed to a local airport after the remaining fuel is siphoned out and the wings are removed.

State police are investigating the incident and the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.
