Fund created for family of 8 year old killed by alleged drunk driver

WASHINGTON — Many listeners contacted WTOP asking how they could help the family of an 8-year-old boy who was killed by a drunk driver on Sunday.

The boy’s father was in Mexico at the time of the accident and is now now trying to find the money to pay for a flight to attend his son’s funeral.

A fund has been set up by the Days Inn in Alexandria, where the boy’s mother worked, for donations to help the family. If you’d like to donate, click here.

Police say the boy, Brian Hernandez-Chavez, and his mother were hit on Sunday on Duke Street by 22-year-old Victor Aldana, who had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit.

Aldana has been charged in the death.

The boy’s mother is in the hospital recovering from injuries.
